Catholic Enrichment Opportunities

At St Joseph's Catholic Academy, we are committed to providing a range of opportunities to enhance the Catholic life of our school.

In school, all children are given responsibility for Catholic life in an age-appropriate way through:

  • Planning Class Celebration of the Word and Class Saint Celebrations at a class and Key Stage level
  • Evaluating liturgy and prayer
  • Contributing to the evaluation of our Catholic life
  • Termly charity fundraising
  • Social outreach to our local and global community, for example through food bank collections, school uniform collections, winter clothes collections, visiting the lonely and the sick

Our Year Six Catholic Life Leaders and the members of our Prayer Team and World Family Team in Reception - Y6 have additional leadership responsibilities.

Our well planned educational visits programme includes visits to sites of Catholic interest:

  • St Joseph's Catholic Church (Nursery and Reception)
  • The Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King, Liverpool (Year Four)
  • Alton Castle Catholic retreat (Year Four)
  • St Chad's Cathedral Birmingham (Year Six)

Our provision is supported by the following visits to other places of worship:

  • Year 1 and Year 2 visit to the Synagogue
  • Year 3 visit to the Mosque
  • Year 5 visit to the Gurdwara

Our Collegiate Lay Chaplain, Mr Corrigan, provides additional enrichment opportunities for our children, including:

  • Sacramental retreats
  • Training in leading liturgy and prayer
  • Training and prayer sessions for our pupil leaders and pupil leaders from other Collegiate schools
  • Transition sessions rooted in Catholic Life
