Pupil Leadership

At St Joseph's, every single one of our children has a role to play in leading the Catholic Life of our school in an age appropriate way through:

  • Planning class Celebrations of the Word 
  • Evaluating the prayer which they have planned 
  • Termly charity fundraising
  • Social outreach to our local and global community, for example through food bank collections, school uniform collections, winter clothes collections, visiting the lonely and the sick 

Pupils also use their gifts and talents to enhance the prayer life of our school by:

  • Proclaiming the Word of God during Mass and whole school, Key Stage and class Celebration of the Word 
  • Leading prayers during Celebration of the Word 
  • Singing to welcome and leading the singing of hymns during Celebration of the Word 
  • Welcoming and modelling reverence during Celebration of the Word 

In addition, our Pupil Leadership Team for Catholic Life consists of:

  • 4 Year Six Catholic Life Leaders
  • 14 Prayer Team members (2 children from Reception to Y6) 
  • 14 World Family Team members (2 children from Reception - Y6)

The Prayer Team 

  • Meet once a month with Mr. Hewitt to discuss that month’s Prayer of the Month.
  • Share the Prayer of the Month with their class and explain its meaning.
  • Remind their class teacher to lead in the class in praying the Prayer the Month.
  • Ensure that all daily prayers are said each day.
  • Help Mr. Hewitt to monitor classroom prayer tables.
  • Help Mr. Hewitt to ensure that our school prayer garden is clean and tidy.
  • Write prayers specifically related to local, national and world current events.
  • Listen carefully to one another during the monthly meeting, showing respect to all.
  • Think of other ways to develop the prayer life of our school.

The World Family Team 

  • Meet approximately once a half term with Mrs Hamilton 
  • Plan events for the whole school to help others in our local and world community through fundraising and practical action
  • Feed back information from the meetings to the class
  • Remind the class to take part in events
  • Help to organise the events
  • Think of ways that we can help
  • Listen carefully to one another in the meeting, showing respect to all
  • Show through their words and actions at all times that they are living out our mission
