Catholic Enrichment Opportunities
At St Joseph's Catholic Academy, we are committed to providing a range of opportunities to enhance the Catholic life of our school.
In school, all children are given responsibility for Catholic life in an age appropriate way through:
- Planning liturgy and prayer time at a class and Key Stage level
- Evaluating liturgy and prayer
- Contributing to the evaluation of our Catholic life
- Termly charity fundraising
- Social outreach to our local and global community, for example through food bank collections, school uniform collections, winter clothes collections, visiting the lonely and the sick
Our Year Six Catholic Life Leaders and the members of our Prayer Team and World Family Team in Reception - Y6 and Mini Vinnies in Y3 - Y6 have additional leadership responsibilities.
Our well planned educational visits programme includes visits to sites of Catholic interest:
- St Joseph's Catholic Church (Nursery and Reception)
- The Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King, Liverpool (Year Two)
- Alton Castle Catholic retreat (Year Four)
- St Chad's Cathedral Birmingham (Year Six)
Our programme of learning about other faiths is also enhanced by visits:
- Hindu Temple (Year One)
- Mosque (Year Three)
- Jewish Synagogue (Year Four)
- Sikh Temple (Year Five)
Our Collegiate Lay Chaplain, Mr Corrigan, provides additional enrichment opportunities for our children, including:
- Sacramental retreats
- Training in leading liturgy and prayer
- Training and prayer sessions for our pupil leaders and pupil leaders from other Collegiate schools
- Transition sessions rooted in Catholic Life
